GRCC wins MCCAA's All-Sports Trophy

Grand Rapids, MI -- GRCC's Athletic Department claimed the Charlie Chanter Michigan Community College Athletic Association's All Sports Trophy for the first time since 1999.

The trophy is awarded to one of the MCCAA's participating schools each year based on where each team finishes within the MCCAA.  Points are awarded to each member college based on each team's rank in a  MCCAA sponsored sport with bonus points added for teams who finish as an MCCAA champion or runner-up.

GRCC's Athletic programs have had a banner year under first year Athletic Director Charles Wells with four teams--Men's Basketball, Volleyball, Baseball and Women's Tennis--making national tournament appearances.

GRCC's Softball, Golf and Women's Basketball teams also made post-season appearances, but were not in contention for a national title as they did not advance past the NJCAA Region XII Tournaments in their respective sports

7 of 8 teams making post season compeition with four playing for national titles is something any athletic department would be proud of.

Second only to Lansing Community College with 14 total wins since 1958, GRCC has now won the MCCAA's All Sports Trophy 13 times.
