Jimmy Carroll to head south to Ave Maria University

Grand Rapids, MI – Former GRCC basketball player Jimmy Carroll is hitting the road to bring his game to Ave Maria University in Ave Maria, Florida.

The Ave Maria University Gyrenes, a member of the Sunbelt Conference, completed the 2011-2012 season with an overall record of 18-16—a school record for wins
.
Carroll began his athletic career at GRCC in 2010 after a successful high school career at East Kentwood.  During his freshman year, Carroll started only four games for the Raiders, but came off the bench in each game to average 4.8 points, 2.7 assists, and 1.8 rebounds per game.

Entering his sophomore season, Carroll's leadership and improved game allowed the Raiders to earn a bid to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament in Danville, Ill.

In 2012 Carroll saw more than twice as many starts and playing time.  He averaged 7.8 points, 3.7 rebounds and a team leading 5 assists per game.
Despite his contributions to his team’s success in 2012, Carroll took little credit for how well the Raiders finished when asked what got his team so far during the tournament in March.  Carroll explained that Coach Carnegie’s leadership and his teammate’s unselfish play afforded them the opportunity to compete at the highest level in NJCAA Division II.

Carroll's absence on the Raider’s back court will be tough this upcoming season, but expect the Gyrenes to cash in on his solid leadership and talent during their 2012-13 season.

The Gyrenes open their season on November 2nd  when they visit to Edward Waters College.
