Grand Rapids, Mich – GRCC's Raiders go 3-1 at their Raider Challenge after three wins over Lakeland (OH), Alpena and Schoolcraft and a 1-3 loss to Oakland Community College. The NJCAA's DII #2 ranked Raiders now hold a 7-0 record in the MCCAA West while 16-3 overall.
The Raiders opened the Challenge with Lakeland Community College picking up a win. Despite dropping the first set 21-25, GRCC rallied to take the last three 25-9, 25-23 and 25-16.
Shelby Ruffner led the Raiders in kills with 15.
Jenna Karel and
Rosalyn Wyse followed with 11 and 10 each.
Audrey Wyse recorded 21 digs.
Jamie Barrows led the Raiders in assists with 33.
GRCC extended their win streak to nine straight after picking a 3-0 win over Alpena Community College in their last match of the day.
Micaela Deshetsky led the team in kills with 7, but the entire team got in on the action as 8 other players recorded a kill over the three sets.
Maddie Stankus led the Raiders in digs with 9 followed closely by
Katlyn Agren who added 8. Burrows again led the Raiders in assists—this time with 27. Ruffner's four blocks were the team's high in that match.
Sunday GRCC faced an unranked, but vote receiving Oakland Community College squad who entered the tournament 8-5 after facing 4 NJCAA DII top-20 teams. Oakland's Raiders carried the momentum from their big wins Friday against #17 Owens and unranked but highly dangerous Muskegon Community College and dispatched the Raiders in four sets 25-23, 16-25, 25-12 and 25-22 to end GRCC's win streak shy of 10 games straight.
GRCC rebounded Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 win over Schoolcraft College taking the match in three sets, 25-15, 25-16 and 25-20.
GRCC hits the road Tuesday September 30
th traveling to Lansing Community College to commence conference play against the 15-3 Stars who have won 5 straight since losing to Muskegon on September 23

GRCC hosts Kalamazoo Valley Community College on October 2
nd at the Gerald R. Ford Fieldhouse. KVCC's Cougars hold a 1-6 record in the West while 4-11 overall. Both contests start at 6:30PM.
